It sounds like a dream: a fresh Salesforce instance with no legacy debt and "perfect" data. But for most orgs, the Greenfield path can be a financial trap.
There are very good reasons to go for Greenfield but be aware of the (hidden) cost:
The Direct Costs (Excerpt)
- Dual Licensing: You’re paying for two Orgs while you build.
- The Migration Tax: Mapping legacy spaghetti into a new schema eats 40% of project hours.
- Integration Rebuilds: Every ERP sync and third-party app has to be re-tested and re-deployed.
The Indirect Drain (Excerpt):
- User Whiplash: Even a "perfect" system (that you never deliver) requires massive retraining and causes a productivity dip.
- Shadow Discovery: You only realize which undocumented processes were "keeping the lights on" once they’re gone.
- Decision Fatigue: Building from scratch requires thousands of micro-decisions that drain your leadership's time.
The Reality Check
Most "broken" Orgs are just overgrown. When you choose Greenfield, you are paying a massive premium just to avoid the work of cleaning.
Instead of a multi year migration that risks your entire Ops budget, try a cleanup. Fix 60 annoying bugs, delete the zombie Apex, prune the 400 unused fields, and consolidate the messy Flows.
You can give your users a "new" system feel for a fraction of the cost, without letting your budget die in a sandbox.
