How a cleanup project survives past week three?

Honestly, most cleanup initiatives don’t die because of technical hurdles. They die because they run out of political capital. If no one can see the value, the budget gets yanked.

Here’s how you keep it alive:

1. Be Cheap

First, fly under the radar. Yes, secure a dedicated budget if you can but try to keep it just below that dreaded "VP Approval threshold." The moment you trigger steering committees, massive capital requests, and formal planning, you're competing directly with the shiny new product roadmap.

2. Cleanup Marketing - Learn to market.

Brag about deleting 300 fields, show a before-and-after of a decluttered screen. Tell them page loads are 2 seconds faster and that you just prevented 50 support tickets. Drop a quote from a user saying, "Wow, this is actually enjoyable now."

Bonus: tying it to a major initiative.

These together should keep you going for a long time
