5 Tech Debt Audits in one week: what I found

A few points from my notes. Disclaimer: this does not represent one Org, it's a combination of findings.

• User interfaces are a big issue.
• Some Orgs were cleaner than others. You can tell when a team tries to clean.
• Even teams actively cleaning can't keep up. Debt gets created faster than it's removed.
• Apex quality: 1 out of 5 was good.
• Some Admins and Developers are scared to touch their own automation, especially Flows.
• Record-Triggered Flow sprawl is nearly universal. One Org had over 600 active Flows.
• Validation Rules are a big concern in some Orgs.
• Security is a mess. Public Read/Write Org-Wide Defaults, some open externally.
• So many custom Fields... so many!
• Account is a very dirty Object, even in Orgs that keep Case and Opportunity clean.
• Record Types are less of a problem than I expected.
• Approval processes are used sparingly.
