There is a monster hiding under your bed, and its name is Technical Debt

For the last 10–15 years: Another Field here, another Flow there, another integration, another quick fix, another project. Bit by bit, the technical debt monster grew.

Now many companies are reaching a dangerous point, technical debt eats delivery velocity. The business needs change faster, cheaper, and more often, but the platform has become so slow, complex, and risky to change that the answer becomes: “Salesforce can’t handle the level of change we need.” To speak in business: Delivery velocity is going down because of all the technical debt in our Orgs.

And when flexibility (delivery velocity) goes down, business can't adapt Salesforce to the ever changing world anymore and business starts losing its edge and then the blame game will start.

It's a problem for all of us!

Business will not blame a messy Page Layout, an old Flow, or 15 years of shortcuts. They blame the platform, the project, and the people responsible for running it, all of us!

So what next?

We have to talk to business and convince them technical debt has to be reduced, drastically! Show them what's at stake, explain them the problem and show them the way out.

Because we all have to pay it down before the monster under the bed eats the whole house.
